Adding the WH52 sensor to a Ecowitt WiFi gateway or console gives readings for soil moisture, temperature and electrical conductivity (EC) to your data. Upload data to the Ecowitt network to view a history of soil data.
Ensure the ideal plant conditions by measuring soil moisture, no more over watering or under watering your plants with alarms available in the App and trends recorded online.
Seed germination is easier with soil temperature monitoring ensuring ideal conditions that won't slow the process.
EC measures the salts in the soil through electrical conductivity. This is used to give your plants the perfect growing conditions without over or under fertilising them. Examples are give below for guidance only:
| Crop Categories | Representative Crops | Recommended EC Range uS/cm |
| Low Salt Tolerance Crops (Very Sensitive) |
Lettuce, Chinese Cabbage, Spinach, Beans (English Beans, Peas), Carrots, Onions, Potatoes, Most Herbs | 1300 - 2000 |
| Medium Salt Tolerance Crops (Common Fruits & Vegetables) |
Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Sweet Peppers, Chili Peppers, Aubergine, Courgette. Strawberries, Sweet Corn, Broccoli | 1800-2500 (Lower in Seedling Stage) |
| High Salt Tolerance Crops (Salt-Tolerant) |
Spinach, Cabbage, Kale, Beetroot, Asparagus, Water Melon |
2000-3000 (Or Higher) |
| Fruit Trees | Citrus, Grapes, Apples, Peaches, Blueberries (Berries) | 1500-2500 (Soil-Based Cultivation Reference) |
| Flowers | Roses (Cut Flowers), Lilies, Chrysanthemums. Poinsettias, Gerbera | 1500-2500 (Varies by Variety) |

Up to 16 soil sensor readings are available to view in the App, or online via Ecowitt.net and in the 3rd party websites that support this sensor type.
Features
- The WH52 sensor requires a gateway or console to display data
- Measures soil moisture, soil temperature and electrical conductivity (EC)
- Soil Temperature Sensor: High-precision NTC thermistor closely contacts soil particles to capture the temperature actually perceived by roots
- Soil Electrical Conductivity Sensor: Dual-electrode measurement determines total soluble salts in soil solution (μS/cm)
- Sends data every 70 seconds to a gateway or console; shares 16 soil moisture channels with WH51/WH51L (8 soil moisture channels for HP350x, WN1900/1920)
- Once paired with a gateway, historical data and alerts for abnormal conditions can be viewed via the Ecowitt App or ecowitt.net; supports data upload to Ecowitt, WU, WOW-BE (via custom server), or a custom server of your choice
- CIP66-rated for outdoor use; plug-and-play design
- Powered by 1 AA battery (not included) with low-power design; each device has a unique Sensor ID for easy registration and management in the Ecowitt App
Important Tip:
- Do not push the sensor into stoney or rocky soil. If the soil is too hard and dry, the sensor can easily be damaged.
- Design for testing soil ONLY.
- It is recommended to totally insert the sensor into the soil and keep it in place for 2 to 3 minutes to get an accurate reading.
