Ecowitt has observed that when the LDS01 sensor is used during strong wind and heavy snowfall conditions, wind blown snow may accumulate on the laser sensor optical surface.
Under low temperatures, this can lead to frost forming on the laser optical surface, which may temporarily affect measurement stability.
The device's internal heating is intentionally controlled to balance performance across different temperature conditions and to avoid overheating. As a result, in extreme blizzard conditions, frost on the optical surface cannot always be completely cleared by heating alone.
Based on this scenario, Ecowitt has designed a revised protective cone for you should you need it This is designed to help reduce direct snow ingress into the device in heavy snow environments.
As many customers do not have access to a 3D printing service to create a precision unit themselves we have arranged production of this for you and are selling these at cost price.

Remember that the protective cover is not required for normal operation. It is recommended only for areas with frequent blizzards or strong winds, where it can help improve measurement stability.
