Well-built protective shelter for weather sensors. Customers praised its sturdy construction, easy installation, and effective protection from rain. "Does EXACTLY what I wanted!" Multiple sensors fit inside with good airflow for accurate readings. However, must be placed in shade as direct sunlight significantly affects temperature accuracy.

A serious shelter for a serious sensor

Although it seems expensive this shelter is well built, easy to mount and allows very easy access to the sensor for battery changes etc. I have placed it in a semi shady position and the temperature readings appear unaffected by direct sun (although I have only witnessed the sensor in operation during the autumn months. All in all it does what it says on the tin and worth the money if you want to protect your sensor and obtain consistent readings from it.

Expensive - but better than the Ecowitt

This is a much better design than the Ecowitt version - less fiddly to install. The sensor is held in place with a tie wrap which is perfectly adequate for the task as the sensor will not be moving. There may be slight problem if a reading is required from in front when the cover is slid upwards and off: the sensor my not be facing straight out to the front. As I will not be reading the sensor directly, this is not a problem for me and may have been caused by the cover's orientation relative to the base. The mounting is secure with the four screws supplied which went into the side of my shed with no problems. You will will need a small Phillips.

Best to keep out of the sun

After placing the WN32 inside the TFA screen, I positioned it out in the open air attached to a pole.
When the sun shone on it, that affected the temperature by a few degrees higher that what my Davis station reads.
I then moved the TFA etc to the best shady place I could, which faces not quite North. Probably NNE, but the early morning sun does just catch the TFA screen upto about 10.00am, and affects the true temperature until then. So I'll have to accept that.

Looks workmanlike but a bit pricy!

I got this at a slight discount with a WN31 for greenhouse use. It appears to be sturdy and well made and we'll see how it stands up to the environment there.

Instructions say put it in the shade but that impossible but I don't need an exact temperature there.

The price seems very high for what it is however, hence only 4 stars

Weather shelter

This is a good product - well made and sensor fits well inside. The only thing that customers need to be aware of is that that the shelter must not have any sunlight falling on it at all - else the temperature goes up a lot. This is despite the sensor being free of sunlight - but sun falling on the shelter is enough to make the temperature go up for the sensor leading to inaccurate readings

Stevenson sensor shelter

The shelter arrived very promptly from Weather Spares and was well packed.

The quality of the product is very good.
The reason I bought this is because my outdoor temperature sensor did not last very long due to bad weather conditions.

I have put my sensor inside and everything is running perfectly. I feel quite confident it will protect the sensor from rain etc and should make it last a lot longer.

Great Solution for Additonal Outside Sensors

This works perfectly for sensors such as the Ecowitt WN31 8 channel sensor if you’re after an additional outside sensor to the main array (Ecowitt only make a waterproof 2 channel sensor currently). Not only will it ensure that it protects the sensor, which is ostensibly an indoor sensor from damp, but it also allows for protection from direct sun light but also free movement of air for to allow for accurate humidity and temperature readings. I have this in place with over 400mm of rain over the last few months with absolutely no issue nor failed data transmission to the console, so it definitely works.
The design of the unit is such that you can free stand it, wall mount or even stap to a pole or gutter giving you many positioning options whilst still allowing easy access to the sensor for maintenance/battery replacement. It’s also a cheaper option to Ecowitt’ s own sensor cover (more typically used for the protection of the excellent lightning detector) which really can only be pole mounted.

Excellent Product

Purchased to house the Remote Sensor for a new Youshiko weather station.
I had to modify the sensor slightly so that I could secure it inside the Sensor Shelter with the (supplied) velcro fastening, but without any great difficulty. Shelter, plus sensor, now mounted on the balcony and working perfectly.
Does EXACTLY what I wanted!

So simple but effective

I picked this up discounted with an Ecowitt sensor. Great little shelter and had the fixings included too making setup easy. Simple screw and click base to put the sensor in. Managed to fit the WH31 and lightning sensor in the same shelter.

Really does help protect my sensors

Offers good protection from the rain for my Oregon sensor and when changing the battery last week found it to be dry inside. Plenty of space for air to get through and I may get another one for an old sensor to help protect it.

Very useful

Have used for only a few months, but the sensor is dry and readings more accurate. Worth the money.

Really pleased

I asked about these with Weather Spares a few weeks ago and they said they'd try to get hold of them. A few days later, in stock, ordered and delivered. I use it for my Netatmo outdoor sensor which fits perfectly.

I've also ordered a second one for a TFA sensor, worth the money to protect them.

Will this fit a Netatmo external sensor?

Weather Spares®

Yes, the outdoor Netatmo cylindrical sensor fits inside this shelter.

D
Dave

Do all Tfa temp/humidity sensors fit?

Weather Spares®

TFA have produced 50+ different weather station sensors during their lifetime so we cannot confirm every sensor will fit.
The maximum internal sizes to accomodate a sensor are 60mm diameter and 160mm in height which should help with your decision.

Is this suitable for the Oregon solar powered sensor?

Weather Spares®

No, the sensor is too wide to fit into the casing. This would also stop the sun reaching the solar panel to keep the sensor charged.
