correction

I've just been corrected. This is a genuine Davis part, not an aftermarket part.

Very simple replacement

This replacement part contains the bearings and the rotating magnet for the the anemometer. One screw removes it completely.

Wind Speed Cartridge

Our Davis has given great service over many years in our exposed coastal location. The only downside has been that we need a new anemometer every three years or so and the huge expense of a new unit each time.

It was good to find that WeatherSpares can supply the speed cartridge separately, so this time we got two for good measure!

Excellent spare for your Davis VP2 Anemometer

Watching the wind cups on my anemometer staying still in even strong wind gusts made me decide that something needed replacing. An initial search turned up a complete anemometer assembly, but further searching brought up this spare part, at a much cheaper price. The spare part was ordered and was sent very quickly by Weather Spares.

Installation of the part was very easy and straight forward, the biggest part was getting the ladder out to bring the anemometer pole down. Once this was down, the replacement was easy, removed the cups, remove the old wind speed cartridge, which is held in place with a Philips screw. Put the new wind speed cartridge in, replace the screw, replace the wind cups, and the job is done! I gave it a quick test before replacing the anemometer pole, just a little blow on the cups was sufficient to set them spinning, and viewed in the console.

All in all, start to finish to me no longer than 45 minutes.

I thoroughly recommend this as a replacement if your anemometer is not spinning freely.

Sticking VP2 Wind Sensor

After having seen low wind speed readings for a while I decided to bring down the wind sensors.

Looking at the speed sensor it was obvious this was sticking.

It seemed the only option would be to replace the whole assembly.

However after finding this, which is a huge saving over buying the whole assembly (oh and I also got the Tiny Allen key as it was put away for safe keeping 6 years ago and lost)

Order place and arrived a few days later well packaged.

Wind sensors all down again.
Remove the wind cups with the Tony Allen Key.
Remove the Speed Cartridge with a Phillips screw driver.
Install new speed cartridge (the new Cartridge also has a cover over the magnet which doesn't need to be removed)

Install back and re-attachbwith Phillips screw and then add back wind cups with tiny Allen key.

Install back to final position.

Despite being a very calm day the wind was detected again at 6mph which was much higher than it has been reading over the past week in windier conditions.

Ironic that since having the sensors installed we haven't had much wind lately.

I'm very happy with the purchase and service.
